MORE THAN BOOKS

MORE THAN BOOKS

The Sports Hub library has all the usual trappings one would expect. It has a vast collection of sports- and health-related books, audiovisuals and electronic materials, ranging from resources for athletes and biographies of famous sportspersons to information about the business side of sports. There are also Internet and video viewing stations, meeting rooms and a Kids Zone which hosts storytelling sessions for children.

But wait, there’s more! In support of Singapore’s Vision 2030, “Live Better Through Sports”, the two-storey Library is a one-stop centre for the community at large as well as sports professionals. It aims to encourage people to embrace sports — not just by reading books or watching videos, but by playing interactive games such as giant chess, Xbox virtual sports and table football. Events such as talks, workshops, contests and meet-and-greet sessions with athletes, are also organised year-round.

Singaporeans and PRs can obtain free membership to avail themselves of the Library’s services, including these events in June and July:

Fingers Ready!
Founded in 2009, TFAS seeks to revive the sport of table football. The Library hosts TFAS activities such as National League games and Flick Sessions for the public, as well as the annual National Championships. “Table football promotes interaction, and the competition structure helps develop concentration and an active mind,” says TFAS President Tan Kok Wee. “All you need is a working index finger!”
