Anticipating boredom because almost everything is closed during the Chinese New Year? The good news is, the Singapore Sports Hub is staying open throughout the long weekend of Feb 12 to 15.

There’s no better time to get active — after a hard year of dealing with the pandemic, let’s start the new year with some self-care — by taking charge of our health and getting a workout.

Here are some facilities you might want to have fun at while burning off those pineapple tarts you scarfed down. So hop on over. We look forward to seeing you!

Facilities for group activities
CNY is a time for reunions, so have a gathering with a difference this year by rounding up your friends or family for a group game. Here are some facilities for people who like to play together. Note: maximum capacities apply.

Sports Hub Beach Volleyball Courts: Soak in some sun with your homies at the two fully equipped beach volleyball courts next to the Water Sports Centre. These courts are designed to make you feel like you’re at the beach without actually being by the beach. Each court holds a maximum of eight people and are free to use but booking is required.

Sports Hub Hard Courts: The outdoor hard courts will be primarily configured for netball and basketball on scheduled days and times of the week and are free for use but booking is required.

Sports Hub Giant Chess: Fans of Netflix chess drama series The Queen’s Gambit may be eager to give this larger-than-life giant chess board a try to see if they can checkmate their opponent. This is free to use but booking is required.

Lawn bowling over CNY? Sure, why not!

Sports Hub Lawn Bowls: Lawn bowlers can have a field day at this 34m by 18m stretch of lawn featuring a smooth artificial turf. Limited sets of lawn bowl balls, jacks and mats are available for loan. A maximum of two people are allowed per lane. Free to use but booking is required.

Kids playground: Let the kids burn off their excess energy with a romp around this playground, which features climbing courses, see-saws and slides. Alternatively, have them make a splash at the newly reopened Kids Water Playground. Both facilities are free to use.

Facilities you can use on your own
Need some alone time after an excess of making small talk during visiting? Here are some facilities that you can use even if you are alone.

Stingray®: Surf your way to a good start to the Chinese New Year at this half-pipe surfing facility, where you can also do bodyboarding and skimboarding. Booking is required and rates apply.

100PLUS Promenade: If a good old fashioned run is what really gets your heart pumping, head for this fully sheltered 888m jogging track that encircles the National Stadium. Free to use.

Skate Park: It’s action city at the Skate Park, which features rails, a fun-box and a mini-quarter pipe. Suitable for kids and adults alike. Free to use.

Sports Hub Library: Expand your knowledge on your favourite sport, or catch up on the latest sporting trends at the Sports Hub Library. Entry is free but limited to three hours per visit.

Singapore Sports Museum: From the hall of fame to the 800 artefacts on display — which include Olympic torches to 1973 SEAP Games memorabilia — you will never have a dull moment at the Singapore Sports Museum. Entry is free for Singaporeans.

Safe management measures
The Singapore Sports Hub has put in place these safe management measures to ensure the safety of all users:

  • There is a cap on the maximum number of people using all facilities.
  • SafeEntry must be used on entry to any facility.
  • Face masks are required at all times except while doing intense exercise.
  • Safe distancing has to be observed.
