Winning tips
Things to remember before your first badminton competition:
> Eat well
Nutrition is key, so don’t skip meals before the tournament. But avoid heavy meals for two hours before the big match.
> Be early
Being on time allows you to relax and suss out your competition, as well as the court you’ve been assigned.
> Take it easy
Nerves can ruin your game. Avoid complicated and fanciful footwork — instead, stick to the basics and don’t be too hard on yourself if you concede points.
> Have fun
Many people forget to have fun when they’re playing in a tournament. Remember why you fell in love with badminton in the first place and enjoy the experience of playing in a professional competition.
