Singapore Sports Hub has numerous activities for you to stay active while maintaining safe distancing, such as kayaking.

Besides pumping iron or running on the treadmill in the gym, there are other fun ways to work up a sweat, while also enjoying the company of family and friends. At Singapore Sports Hub, there are myriad indoor and outdoor activities that challenge not only the body, but also the mind, as you take up a new sport or pick up a new game.
With Phase 2 of Singapore’s reopening, the OCBC Aquatic Centre, Water Sports Centre and Kallang Wave Mall are now accessible to the public, with safe distancing measures in place. These include visitors staying 2m apart, mask-wearing and checking in and out with SafeEntry.
If you are looking to spice up your fitness routine, here are some activities that are guaranteed to make you sweat.
1. Kayaking and canoeing
Take in the picturesque Kallang Basin while paddling with a friend.

Until we can travel again, this may be one of the best ways to step foot off the island. Rent a kayak or canoe and make a splash in the Kallang Basin. Relish the fresh breeze and bask in the sun while out on the water. As all water sports courses and dragonboat training have been suspended, you will be able to take in the wide open space and enjoy the peace, while at the same time get a sweet workout, not to mention a nice tan.

2. Indoor rock climbing
To maintain a safe distance between climbers, alternate lanes at Climb Central will be closed.

If perspiring under the hot sun is not your idea of fun, how about rock climbing in air-conditioned comfort? Even absolute beginners and kids (above the age of five) can have a go at Climb Central at Singapore Sports Hub, the tallest indoor rock face in Singapore which goes up to 16m high. The facility will operate at reduced capacity and booking is encouraged. In addition, climbers will be restricted to alternate lanes, so as to maintain safe distancing. Have fun figuring out the best way to place your hands and feet, stretch those arm and leg muscles, and push yourself to scale new heights.

3. Lawn bowling
Have a rolling good time with lawn bowling.

As long as you can throw a ball, you can join in the fun with lawn bowling. At this sprawling 34m-by-18m green space on the roof of the Singapore Sports Museum, both the young and old can work up a light sweat in this age-old game which involves strategy, skill and social interaction. Players throw a large ball as close as possible to a smaller white ball, known as a jack, without hitting it. The tricky part is getting the ball to go where you want, as it is made to travel in a curve.

4. Giant chess
Exercise not just the brain but also your limbs as you walk around and make your moves in a game of giant chess.

Do not underestimate the brain power it takes to play a larger-than-life game of chess. Instead of being able to see all the pieces at a glance, you will have to walk among the pieces. And rather than just lifting a finger to make your move, you will have to use both your hands and feet to make the next move. This cerebral game takes on a physical element and by the time you say “checkmate”, you will have clocked a few hundred more steps for the day.

5. Beach volleyball
Partner up with a friend for a friendly game of beach volleyball.

With just two people on each team, beach volleyball — unlike regular volleyball, which has six — may just be one of the best sports to engage in with safe distancing measures in place. The volleyball courts at Singapore Sports Hub, which are free to the public to book, let you and your teammate get active, sweaty and sandy together.
