From the breathtaking views at Kallang Basin to the many world-class facilities at the Singapore Sports Hub, it’s no secret that Kallang is where national athletes and sports enthusiasts gather to take their fitness to new heights. You know what they say—work hard, play hard and you get to do both here. People of all ages and fitness levels push themselves to the limit here, whether it’s daily fitness classes of kickboxing and pilates, or even to play a friendly game of beach volleyball or lawn bowling with friends and family. Need some ideas on what to do? We’ve got you covered, and we’re throwing in a few food recommendations from around the neighbourhood because there’s nothing like a good post-workout meal.
Running’s a great way to clear your head, but what do you do when the skies are anything but clear? Well, the 100PLUS Promenade might just be your new go-to. The 888 metre track is Singapore’s largest fully-sheltered running track that wraps around the National Stadium, connecting the different facilities at the Singapore Sports Hub. Oh, and did we mention it’s open to the public 24/7? Perfect for those who prefer a night run.

Speaking of battling the elements, those looking to beat the heat can take the little ones to Splash-N-Surf, where both young and old can splash their way through a kids water playground. Just a five minute walk will take you to the Kallang Basin where you can try your hand at some water sports along the city’s longest river. We’re talking about of course, the Water Sports Centre where visitors can go kayaking, canoeing or dragon boating.

Sunseekers looking to get a good dose of vitamin D can take their workouts outdoors at the nearby Kallang Riverside Park. Here, you can go jogging or cycling against a backdrop of lush greenery and it’s the perfect place to catch a sunrise or a sunset. The Kallang River flows through here with coconut palm trees offering some shade from the heat, making it a great backdrop for the romantic picnic date you’re already mentally planning as you’re reading this. It’s a great place to unwind and just people-watch. If you’re lucky, you’ll also be able to spot the Singapore Dragon Boat Association doing their thing, as they train here regularly as well.

Now, that first sip of a sports drink after sweating it out is a godsend, but a hearty post-workout meal is exactly what you’ll need to round off a day of sweating it out. Even if you were just looking for ideas to spend that precious cheat day, we’ve got you covered. Good thing there’s no lack of good eats around the neighbourhood!
There are quite a bunch of food options near the Singapore Sports Hub at the nearby Kallang Wave Mall. Here, you can take your taste buds on a trip with classic French dishes at Poulet to Japanese hotpot at Suki-ya, to spicy Thai food at Basil Thai Kitchen.
Some of the stalls at the Old Airport Road Food Centre can have a wait time of up to 45 minutes.

If you’ve craving for some hawker food, the iconic Old Airport Road Food Centre is just a short walk away. It’s home to popular stalls such as OAR Seafood Soup and Nam Sing Hokkien Mee that command long queues. Surviving the 30-45 minute wait for some of these stalls is a workout in itself, but if your growling stomach won’t wait any longer, there are plenty of other stalls that will be sure to satisfy your cravings. Indulge in a piping hot bowl of prawn noodles (with the option to add pork ribs or slices of abalone for an extra treat) from Albert Street Prawn Noodle. The noodles here are soft but not mushy, and are the perfect texture to pick up the savoury broth that’s chock-full of umami goodness. Make sure you slurp up every drop of soup, and congratulate yourself on another successful day of working out or a cheat day well spent.
