Photovoltaic panels that harness solar power
When admiring our city’s eclectic skyline, it’s easy to spot our majestic and distinctive 55,000-seater National Stadium. Take a closer look and you might notice that parts of the Singapore Sports Hub are embellished with arrays of solar panels. These photovoltaic panels furnish an approximate 4,500 square metres of our National Stadium’s exterior. They harness solar energy, which helps reduce the Singapore Sports Hub’s energy consumption.
Our gigantic stadium cools itself
These state-of-the-art panels absorb sunlight to generate 707 kilowatts-peak of electricity. Enough to power 146 HDB 4-room flats, 707 kilowatts-peak of electricity is also enough to offset the energy used by our immense stadium’s cooling system, for one year.
In the construction of public buildings in the tropics, the cooling of a property is a top consideration and usually involves large energy consumption. However, the National Stadium is intelligently designed to counteract overheating. Its movable roof acts as sunshade and is embedded with LED pixel lights. Furthermore, its design encourages natural ventilation. While the solar electricity generated helps mitigate carbon dioxide emissions and makes this unique facility carbon neutral, the aesthetic of our Singapore Sports Hub is inspired by nature and includes many tranquil spots of greenery.

The Singapore Sports Hub was awarded the Green Mark Gold Plus standard for its sustainable design and its management continues to strive toward carbon neutrality and implementing new sustainable initiatives.
